Saxtys Wines Wine of the Week – Monday 3rd November 2014

The Constantin Chevalier Cotes du Luberon Grenache 2007

As Halloween and Bonfire night celebrations draw behind us, our thoughts turn to a more sobering Autumn event. Remembrance Sunday. A time for reflection and appreciation of those past and present – especially those currently involved in conflicts around the world.

With our home in Herefordshire also home to the Special Air Service HQ, we chose this what we have hope is a fitting wine for our wine of the week.Β The Constantin Chevalier Cotes du Luberon Grenache 2007. Although produced in the Cotes du Rhone region of France the owner of this Syrah / Grenache Blend is Chase Distillery, also from right here in Herefordshire.

A rare and unique wine, deep ruby in colour with purple reflections. The nose is expressive with aromas of stewed strawberries, blackberries, black cherries, and general spicy notes. On the palate it is an incredibly balanced wine. Notes of ripe black fruits are paired with liquorice and violet. Slight, fine tannins with an overall silky finish. A great seasonal wine, perfect for the Autumn and Winter days ahead!

This is a great seasonal wine – perfect for the coming Autumn and Winter days. So this weekend, if you are out at a Remembrance Day parade, when you come home, sit by the fire and enjoy a glass of this warming, welcoming wine with family and loved ones.

‘Lest we Forget’

Goes perfectly with good hearty Autumn dishes such as stews, casseroles, Game and the traditional British Roast with all the trimmings.
